Magic Messages

O my sons, I would that ye should remember that these sayings are true, and also that these records are true. And behold, also the plates of Nephi, which contain the records and the sayings of our fathers from the time they left Jerusalem until now, and they are true; and we can know of their surety because we have them before our eyes.
And now, my sons, I would that ye should remember to search them diligently, that ye may profit thereby; and I would that ye should keep the commandments of God, that ye may prosper in the land according to the promises which the Lord made unto our fathers.
Mosiah 1:
Often we may read a verse or combined verses and glean what I call magic messages of insight.  I have highlighted two from these verses:  "we have them before our eyes", and "ye should remember to search them diligently".

Great Advice

The ceremony's student speaker, Alicia Stanton, compared the multidisciplinary approach of academics to a need to maintain connections among the physical, intellectual, emotional and spiritual.

Those connections, she said, would help graduates to see the big pictures in their adult lives.

"When we apply the gospel (scriptures) to all aspects of our life," she said, "we avoid compartmentalizing our roles or compromising our values. We stay true to ourselves and connected to our purpose for living."

I added (scriptures).

Healing

"When we apply the healing ointment of the Savior’s Atonement, He will soften our heart and help us to change. He can heal the wounded soul (see Jacob 2:8)."
E. Duncan

“the word which healeth the wounded soul.”

Apply Ointment

"Years later I decided to finally take action. All I did was simply apply ointment to the lump and cover it with a bandage. I repeated this process frequently. You cannot imagine my surprise when one day, as I removed the bandage, the sliver had emerged from my finger."
E. Duncan

The Sliver

"Many years ago, while I was mending a fence, a small sliver of wood entered into my finger. I made a meager attempt to remove the sliver and thought I had done so, but apparently I had not. As time went on, skin grew over the sliver, creating a lump on my finger. It was annoying and sometimes painful."

Mortal Combat

“Millions of the Jaredites are slain in battle—Shiz and Coriantumr assemble all the people to mortal combat—The Spirit of the Lord ceases to strive with them—The Jaredite nation is utterly destroyed—Only Coriantumr remains.”

This chapter preface would make a great movie script.  Highlighted by two events, the loss of this people, and the translation of a prophet.
Ether 15:

“31 And it came to pass that after he had smitten off the head of Shiz, that Shiz raised up on his hands and fell; and after that he had struggled for breath, he died fell to the earth;

“34 Now the last words which are written by Ether are these: Whether the Lord will that I be translated, or that I suffer the will of the Lord in the flesh, it mattereth not, if it so be that I am saved in the kingdom of God. Amen.”

A death scene and a translation one.

Last Words

“18 Wherefore, it came to pass that in the first year that Ether dwelt in the cavity of a rock, there were many people who were slain by the sword of those secret combinations, fighting against Coriantumr that they might obtain the kingdom.”
Ether 13

But before:

“13 And I was about to write more, but I am forbidden; but great and marvelous were the prophecies of Ether; but they esteemed him as naught, and cast him out; and he hid himself in the cavity of a rock by day, and by night he went forth viewing the things which should come upon the people.”
Ether 13

Yet:

"His infinite compassion can help us find a way."
Elder Gong

Finally:

“34 Now the last words which are written by Ether are these: Whether the Lord will that I be translated, or that I suffer the will of the Lord in the flesh, it mattereth not, if it so be that I am saved in the kingdom of God. Amen.”
Ether 15
