Conference Messages

An important part in your personal study is to take note of identified conference talks in the material.  These talks give inspired insights into current application of the material.  For example: Come Follow Me,  May 13-19, See also S. Mark Palmer "Then Jesus beholding Him Loved Him". From this talk:

"One day while driving through the beautiful rolling wheat fields on the Washington-Idaho border, I was listening to a recording of the New Testament".

Listening to the scriptures in your car can provide quality study time as well.

Elevated Understanding

A powerful tool to elevate our understanding of a message from a speaker is too review their source data, their footnotes.

Sacramental Prayers

We take upon ourselves the name of Jesus Christ, and that we will always remember him.

Wow, #500 post on Scripture Man!

This is the 500th post on Scripture Man.  To this point, a 4 year journey.  Hopefully you have seen a change in your desire to read scripture.  It began with a quote from Boyd K. Packer, to this historic point- Alma chapter 7 in the Book Of Mormon, 

19 For I perceive that ye are in the paths of righteousness; I perceive that ye are in the path which leads to the kingdom of God; yea, I perceive that ye are making his paths straight.

20 I perceive that it has been made known unto you, by the testimony of his word, that he cannot walk in crooked paths; neither doth he vary from that which he hath said; neither hath he a shadow of turning from the right to the left, or from that which is right to that which is wrong; therefore, his course is one eternal round.

C.S. Lewis astutely clarifies that for our premodern ancestors, the universe “had a built-in significance. And that in two senses; as having “significant form’ … and as a manifestation of the wisdom and goodness that created it.

Greater Hearing

My gratitude abounds when I hear messages that challenge the way I’m living and help me come closer to discovering light and truth and experiencing real joy. When we see those not of our faith doing good, why not rejoice and sing with gratitude to the heavens that in a world of so many dark influences, light and goodness are getting a greater hearing?

I see efforts with the involvement of Riverton FamilySearch Library coordinating Family History and the Hilltop Methodist Church. And studying the Bible with the monday study group at Juan Diego Catholic Church- at the end of each session praying for those in the community.
